De tentoonstelling liet zien hoe het ontstaan van de egyptologie als academische discipline, de opkomst van het toerisme en de technische en de economische ontwikkeling van de fotografie zelf, in de 19e eeuw nauw vervlochten raakten. Fotografen in Egypte bedienden namelijk zowel egyptologen als toeristen.
