Alle landen en hoogwaardigheidsbekleders die in 1851 aan de\u00a0Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations<\/em>\u00a0in Londen (de eerste wereldtentoonstelling) hadden deelgenomen ontvingen als dank een luxueuze presentatieset van de offici\u00eble catalogus en de juryrapporten. De juryrapporten werden ge\u00efllustreerd met foto’s, op dat moment \u00e9\u00e9n van de modernste illustratietechnieken. Dat terwijl de fotografie toen pas twaalf jaar oud was en nog lang niet had bewezen een volwaardige illustratietechniek naast de houtgravure of de lithografie te kunnen zijn. In totaal moesten er voor alle sets 20.000 foto\u2019s met de hand worden afgedrukt, opgeplakt en ingestoken, een ongekend massale operatie voor die tijd. Het werd dan ook een prestigeproject: voor de organisatie, de Britse regering \u00e9n de fotografie zelf, en kwam, zoals uit het onderzoek bleek, met heel veel pijn en moeite tot stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Werkzaamheden<\/strong>: archief- & bronnenonderzoek in het Rijksmuseum, de Koninklijke Bibliotheek, het Victoria and Albert Museum en het Imperial College in Londen, schrijven van verschillende wetenschappelijke artikelen<\/p>\n\n\n\n
